A Red Ribbon for Caltanissetta Square

Dario Cottone and his firm recently won an international design competition for The Great Square of Caltanissetta (La Grande Piazza di Caltanissetta).

The firm's website describes:
"The elements involved in the architectural creation of the new urban space are: the red ribbon, which generates and characterizes the spatial location of the new city itself becoming an instrument to be used by citizens of Caltanissetta, the needles of light, and for those who report stresses, such as "matches lit in the dark ", the different areas and the seating system, which moves parallel to the tape defining its nature in different areas, the system of green, which interact in a dependent or independent of the tape."

Extempo:

"I am intrigued by this concept by Cottone

And attracted to the renderings shown

A red ribbon which generates and gives character

To the new city of Caltanissetta

I like that it penetrates underground

And encompasses trees and furniture around

I’m reminded of the Contemporary Arts Center

By Zaha Hadid, Pritzker Prize winner"
